What our Visitors had to say

Guestbook comments:

We walked around Bookaroo in a state of complete amazement and joy. We were expecting it to be interesting, but the events, the venue, and the authors/illustrators were even more engaging, welcoming, accessible and well organized than we'd dreamed. The kids especially loved the automata workshop and the workshop where the 3 authors  discussed writing about traumatic events. Our kids also loved watching Jeff Smith draw. We-the teachers-were spellbound by Wendy Cooling's talk. The kids loved talking with her, too. She made them feel instantly at ease, as if they shared a whole world, which, of course, through books, they do. We didn't attend Anushka's workshops (they were for younger kids) but she was kind enough to sit down to chat and sign books, even the ones we brought from our school library in Sikkim. Bhajju, Sandya and Sirish did the same.

The other unexpected pleasure was  Sanskriti, itself.  (I always wondered where  those Indian clay horses-that particular shape -came from, and now I know.) We also were grateful for how safe the place felt. It was an unexpected relief that we could allow the kids to wander the grounds in pairs without us having to stay in one big, sluggish group. The way you had the times and places of events so clearly marked made that possible to do.

You-and many others-- must have worked very hard for months...I know there were little blips with microphones, but from an outsider's perspective, it seemed so well organized, and everyone we met was helpful and kind.  When Reshma, our first grade teacher, called you from Sikkim, we were really touched that you were willing to help us get a schedule of workshops together, even as our numbers changed. That really made us feel welcomed and less nervous about making the long trip.

Please let us know the dates for next year as soon as you decide on them . We want to bring more kids and more teachers! If we were better organized, and richer, we'd bring the whole school...In the meantime, we welcome  anyone of you from Bookaroo to come visit Taktse in Sikkim ...We are already looking forward to coming again next year.

With warm greetings and sincere thanks,
Maria Lauenstein

To the team Bookaroo

Thank you very much for organising such a delightful progamme for our children. Although my children enjoyed all the sessions they attended, I must make special mention for some. Kahani Suno by Anupa Lal was amazing, London Jungle Book and the efforts of Stephen, Molly and Katy are greatly apreciated; Mathematwist was much enjoyed and Sunita really deserves credit for making difficult 10 year olds appreciate whatever she did with them. Ranjit Lal was an inspiring minefield of information which is still being repeated with wonder, and also efforts to involve children by Aniruddha Sengupta were 'fundoo' in the words of my son!

Repeat programmes would be very welcome.

Thank you all once again for all of us, and cheers to the entire team,

Anjali, Jayesh, Vedant and Vidwat

Thank you so much for the organisation of such a wonderful event. My daughter really enjoyed herself that day, and so did many of her friends.

It would be good if this be atleast a quarterly event.

Dear Bookaroo Committee, This is to thank you for bringing to Delhi a festival targetted at reading, literature and a lot of fun. Kudos to you all, the children loved it, as did we parents. We look forward to another festival oriented towards opening the young minds and making them tuned to reading, writing and creatively expressing themselves.
