Bookaroo, Children’s Literature Festival

Bookaroo

Bookaroo is India’s first children’s literature festival. Started in 2008 the festival falls into two distinct parts: Bookaroo in the City, a fortnight of book-related activities in schools across the city ending with two fun-filled days at Sanskriti Anandgram.

Thanks to book lovers in Delhi and around Bookaroo has grown from strength to strength over the years. Last year (2011) it featured over 60 speakers participating in over 90 events. Speakers from 12 countries including India spread the joy of reading through their talks, readings, performances, music, craft…

Bookaroo is much more than just storytellings – although we have plenty of that!

The festival includes workshops on everything from mathematics to cartoons, from building alien worlds to recycling paper; as well as story sessions under the banyan tree, puppet shows, and a doodle wall to let your imagination take flight!

Meet your favourite authors, and well-loved children’s characters – from Horrid Henry to Elmer the Elephant, from characters from the Panchatantra to Ramayana, from Taranauts to I Heroes, From Mukand to Felicia.

There is also a special display of children’s books by Eureka, the festival bookstore where you can buy and browse and have your books signed.

Set in 7 acres of beautiful open grounds at Sanskriti Anandgram, on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon highway, there’s plenty to see and do for parents and children this weekend.
Entry is free and all are welcome!

It is held in last weekend of November every year. This year the dates are Nov 23-25.

The festival went to Srinagar in May 2011 and there are plans to take it to other cities.
